There are many things to take into consideration when a name is chosen for just about anything.

I find it extremely strange that the group behind the drive to legalize marijuana in Michigan is called; The Committee for a Safer Michigan. This group is based in Detroit, Michigan. How in the world do you say legalizing marijuana has anything to do with being safer?

They needed to have over 322,000 signatures to get the issue on the fall ballet. They were only able to garner around 50,000 signatures at the time of the deadline. The next opportunity will be in 2014.

The proposed ballot initiative would have amended the state constitution to allow the cultivation, use, sale and distribution of the cannabis plant by adults over the age of 21.

It would not permit the use of marijuana while driving a motor vehicle. Okay, so you would not be able to smoke marijuana while you drive per the proposed amendment but do you think that people would not smoke right before they get into a car and then drive around under the influence of marijuana. Now I can totally see how this would be an initiative that would make Michigan safer.

Please, have they been smoking so much marijuana that they really can even see the stupidity in this argument?

The voters of Detroit still have the decriminalization of the possession of less than one ounce of marijuana on private property on the November ballet.

From what I have seen most decriminalization laws deal with amounts around 3 to 4 ounces of marijuana. I find it interesting that the Detroit voters are looking at a referendum dealing with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. This makes me think that it is only a stepping stone initiative to get the small amount decriminalized, then work on raising the amount that one can have in their possession.

One of the arguments that many proponents of decriminalizing marijuana say that it is not a drug that is addictive. This argument is somewhat factual as studies give some support that marijuana is not extremely physically addictive. The side that is never brought up is that marijuana is very psychologically addictive.

Personal experience proves this to be very evident as I have dealt with many marijuana users that are very adamant that they will do anything go be able to continue to get high from the use of marijuana.
