Social Media is Big Brother

Jun - 24 - 2012
Bryan Sr

The news organization, The Onion, recently had breaking news that the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) was using Facebook to monitor its close to one billion users along with those on other social media sites.

A spokesman for the CIA told The Onion they were extremely happy the users of the various social media sites would list all their friends, give almost up to the minute updates as to what was going on in their life and even give numerous updates to their exact location throughout the day on a regular basis. The spokesman for the CIA went on the say they have been able to cut back on their undercover spying efforts as all they have had to do is make up spoof accounts on all the social media sites then become friends with people they wanted to watch and friends of their friends.

He went on to say this electronic surveillance has been groundbreaking for them. That is has saved the agency untold number of man hours and tax payer money with greater efficiency.

He concluded the interview by saying “It is truly a dream come true”.

Lawyers for the ACLU have publicly expressed their outrage at what they are calling an intrusion of privacy. The ACLU has demanded the CIA stop this unwarranted spying into the lives of what they are calling everyday people that pose no threat to the public.

The CIA did not respond to questions related to this matter.

Obviously this was a spoof report to which I have also taken….drum roll….literary leisure with or have I?

If you did not know, anything that gets out on the Internet is out there for all to see, even those pesky government agencies. In reality, there could be those super secret government agencies with departments that are in fact watching us as we so innocently post our every thought, every action, every emotion, etc, you fill in the every (blank).

Bryan, this is an issue I’ve wrestled with throughout my time on the internet.

Several of the projects I’ve started over the years have ended through self sabotage because I am uncomfortable living my life on the internet.

I dip in and out of Twitter for the exact same reason. I like it but I loathe it at the same time.

I’ve struggled to find a happy medium but I think I’m close to it. I’m not worried about being spied upon, I just don’t want everyone to know every aspect of my life.

BTW I was a couple of paragrpahs in before I twigged that this was a spoof. I think looking after small children has addled my brain.

I know what you mean to a large extent. I share just about anything but try to keep the very personal close to the cuff and not let that out.
That is great that I had you fro a while before you realized it was a spoof. I was trying. :-)
